I am an elementary music teacher at both Welsh and Fenton Elementary schools. I am a graduate of McNeese State University in Vocal Music Education and Vocal Performance. I have Level I and Level II Kodàly certification from the University of Central Missouri. I implement the Kodàly philosophy in my classroom, a philosophy in which the aim is to instill a love of music in each child who walks through the door of the music room. Students develop musicality by learning traditional American folk songs, games, and dances that are contagiously fun! Using the experiences from the songs, games, and dances, students explore music concepts such as beat, rhythm, pitch, melody, and harmony. Students discover through a developmental sequence how to read, write, and create music. Students explore the form of music, and are able to recognize patterns and anticipate what is to come. These are useful skills that also serve students in other subjects. I love to hear that students are singing songs from music class on the playground and even at home!
